Chelsea 2 - 0 Liechester City
By : UnknownLondon: Diego Costa and Eden Hazard scored in the second half as Chelsea finally broke down Leicester's stubborn resistance for a 2-0 victory in the Premier League on Saturday. The newly promoted visitors had threatened a major upset until Costa controlled a deflected pass from
Branislav Ivanovic in front of goal and slotted the ball past goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel in the 63rd
minute. It was Costa's second goal in two league games for Chelsea, having joined from Atletico
Madrid in the offseason. Hazard then put the result beyond doubt with a solo effort in the 77th, cutting in from the left and
sending a low shot inside the far post. Leicester missed a couple of good chances before Costa's opener, including when David Nugent came
clear through on goal but had his shot saved by the onrushing Thibaut Courtois.
Frank Lampard signs with NYC FC
By : UnknownFrank Lampard left Chelsea after attaining incredible career credentials, appearing 649 times for the club since joining in 2001 from West Ham.The 36-year-old left Chelsea at the end of last season after 13 seasons & a club record 211 goals.
Lampard became NYC FC’s 4th player & 2nd of 3 to fill the Designated Player slots, joining Spaniard legendary striker David Villa.
It’s a very impressive short list for NYC FC, which will play at Yankee Stadium starting from March. Lampard, who was the captain of England during its disappointing World Cup campaign in Brazil, won the English Premier League Title 3-times with Chelsea.
He dismissed the idea that he is merely playing out the string in America, ensuring maximum effort.
“We’re here to play serious football, serious soccer and try to win something,” he said. “This will be a great experience for me, I hope, and it certainly isn’t playing on the beach.
“I’ve seen what MLS has done, the improvements over the years, the quality of players. That perception (that MLS is a cakewalk league) is dated. I think that has changed now.”
