Cristiano Ronaldo

  • Barcelona's front-3 combined within 3 minutes to fire the first goal.

  • Barcelona left themselves dangerously open at the back in an attempt to equalize but it backfired into a team move for Real as Iniesta played in to Ronaldo who connected with James Rodriguez to find Benzema for a through-ball. Benzema thus, sealing the victory for Real Madrid in the 61st minute with the scoreline reading 3-1.

Its Lionel Messi vs Cristiano Ronaldo once again, for what appears to be about the 3843732839244th time in the last decade, this time both of the greats gunning up for all-time scoring record in the Champions League.

The duo are inseparable rivals of the decade like any other sport has had in the past, Muhammad Ali & Joe Frazier in Boxing, Bjorn Borg & John McEnroe in Tennis, these two thrive due to each other, its almost as if they are parasites feeding of each others brilliance, trying to one-up each other on every step of their careers.

Currently the Portuguese captain Ronaldo has 69 goals in his account while Messi sits on 68.

Its just a matter of 'when' rather than 'if' the all-time scoring record of 71 goals held by Spaniard Raul will be surpassed.

The degree of competitiveness can be measured from the last 5 years since Ronaldo came to Madrid, he has netted 54 goals in 53 Champions league appearances whereas Messi scored 51 times in 55 matches.

Prior to this move, Ronaldo had scored only 15 goals in 52 appearances for Man Utd & Messi scored 17 goals in his 35 games for Barca.

It is quite evident that these two legends need each other. Ronaldo & Messi are destined to chase each other in the hunt for more trophies, achievements, records & goals till they finally hang up their boots.

One thing is for sure, barring any injuries, the mark for most goals scored by a player in Champions League is set be exchanged multiple times between the two of them for seasons to come.

Goals from Sergio Ramos & Gareth Bale put Madrid in sight of a comfortable victory without the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo, Angel Di Maria & Xabi Alonso.

However, Inigo Martinez and David Zurutuza levelled for the hosts before the break and Zurutuza and Carlos Vela sealed a much-needed win for under-fire Sociedad boss Jagoba Arrasate.

Cristiano Ronaldo's Body is a Sponsorship Machine

Cristiano Ronaldo is perhaps the most famous player in the world of football. He looks like somebody's animated, with the DNA of Elvis Presley, and given a soccer ball. This makes the Real Madrid forward one of the most in-demand endorsers.

Brands want to be associated with everything from his powerful right foot to the occasionally frosted tips of his hair. Nike pays him almost $10 million per year to wear its cleats and apparel.

This week he caused a minor sensation with his endorsement on Japanese television of an exercise device called the Facial Fitness PAO. It was one of the most bizzare celeb commercials and pretictably so, caused a stir all over.

But thats not all the big brands in his portfolio.
For those keeping track at home, here’s the Ronaldo portfolio broken down by body part:

Rodriguez was in Spain on Sunday on his way back from Colombia to Monaco, where he will say his goodbye to the club this week before returning to the Spanish capital to sign a new 6 year deal.

Real Madrid great Alfredo Di Stefano dies at age 88

Alfredo Di Stefano Death

MADRID -- Alfredo Di Stefano, the forward Real Madrid has hailed as being the most important component in its mid-20th century ascent to becoming a global powerhouse, has died. He was 88.
The club said in a statement that Di Stefano, its honorary president, died on Monday afternoon at Gregorio Maranon hospital, two days after a heart attack.
Di Stefano turned 88 on Friday. The following day, he had a heart attack on a Madrid street near the club's Santiago Bernabeu Stadium. On arrival paramedics found Di Stefano's heart had stopped beating and he wasn't breathing, but they managed to resuscitate him after 18 minutes. He spent the following two days in a coma.
Renowned for his speed, versatility and strategic grasp of the game, he helped Madrid attain five straight European Champions Cups and was voted European player of the year in 1957 and '59.
In a career spanning five clubs in three countries -- Argentina, Colombia and Spain -- from 1945-1966, Di Stefano scored 789 goals in 1,090 matches. In the process he claimed top-scorer status once in the Argentine league, twice in Colombia's league and five times in Spain.
However, as FIFA acknowledges on its official website, "statistics will show that Alfredo Di Stefano is one of the world's greatest ever goalscorers, but the bare facts only tell part of the story."
Those who knew him recall a straight-talking character who believed success on the field came through physical effort and dedication.
"I don't want to be idolized, I just want to play. And to do that you have to run and sweat," he said. His modesty in the face of overwhelming sporting success won him the admiration of many.
"I think he was one of the greatest, if not the greatest, football player ever," England great Bobby Charlton said.
