Eye on the ball: Lampard practices his ball skills Familiar sight: Lampard wears the No 8 shirt

Frank Lampard left Chelsea after attaining incredible career credentials, appearing 649 times for the club since joining in 2001 from West Ham.The 36-year-old left Chelsea at the end of last season after 13 seasons & a club record 211 goals.

Lampard became NYC FC’s 4th player & 2nd of 3 to fill the Designated Player slots, joining Spaniard legendary striker David Villa.

It’s a very impressive short list for NYC FC, which will play at Yankee Stadium starting from March. Lampard, who was the captain of England during its disappointing World Cup campaign in Brazil, won the English Premier League Title 3-times with Chelsea.

He dismissed the idea that he is merely playing out the string in America, ensuring maximum effort.

“We’re here to play serious football, serious soccer and try to win something,” he said. “This will be a great experience for me, I hope, and it certainly isn’t playing on the beach.

“I’ve seen what MLS has done, the improvements over the years, the quality of players. That perception (that MLS is a cakewalk league) is dated. I think that has changed now.”
