Commonwealth Games 2014 - Glasgow, Scotland
Jodie Stimpson (ENG) won the first gold medal of the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games when she led home the women's triathlon field in a time of 1:58:56.
Following Stimpson over the line at Strathclyde Country Park were Kirsten Sweetland (CAN) who won silver in 1:59.01 and Vicky Holland (ENG) who won bronze having crossed the line in 1:59:11.
Alistair and Jonny Brownlee set the pace at the Men’s Individual Triathlon. Both brothers shared the podium with Alistair taking first place and Gold (1:48:50) and Johnathan claiming Second and Silver (1:49:01). Richard Murray of South Africa came in third to clinch the Bronze medal (1:50:21).
In Judo Colin Oates won Gold in the Men’s 66kg, the 25th gold medal England has won in Judo. He came up against Andreas Krassas (CYP) in the 66kg final.

Krassas is only the second Cypriot medal winner in Judo, after Christodoulos Christodoulides (CYP) in the Men’s 73kg event at the Manchester 2002 Commonwealth Games (also silver). Siyabulela Mabula (RSA) took bronze, South Africa’s first ever medal in judo.
It was two gold medals for the Renicks sisters of Coatbridge as Kimberley Renicks had claimed Scotland's first gold, landing a textbook ippon to defeat India's Shushila Likmabam in the 48kg final. Sister Louise beat England's Kelly Edwards in the 52kg final later in the day.
Hannah Miley broke the Women’s 400m Individual Medley record with four minutes 31.76 seconds and set a new Commonwealth Games record. A stunning final 100m from Miley left Aimee Willmott (ENG) with silver.
Rowan Crothers broke his own World Record in the Men’s para-sport S9 100m Freeestyle and the first Gold, Silver and Bronze in a single competition at this year’s Games for Australia. Crothers won in 54.58, Matthew Cowdrey (AUS) took silver in 56.33 and Brenden Hall (AUS) the bronze in 56.85.
Team Scotland’s Ross Murdoch and Michael Jamieson both claimed Gold and Silver respectively in the Men’s 200m Breaststroke. Murdoch from Stirling became the Commonwealth Champion after a hard fought battle with Jamieson. Murdoch swam one of the fastest races this year to defy his compatriot with a time of 2:07.30 is a new British and Commonwealth Games record.
